New York Domicile - New Pilots Orientation

New Pilot Information

On behalf of the Staff here at American Virtual Airlines and the JFK Hub, I would like to welcome you to AvA. At this point you should have already received your Pilot ID number which was sent to you with your initial welcome letter from the Human Resources Department. Please use this ID when ever logging into the AvA site, forum, contacting staff, and when ever flying online in the VATSIM Networks. On this page we will go through several topics regarding AvA and what is expected of you as a new pilot. We all started in your shoes at one point in our virtual careers, we here in the New York hub hope to make this process easier for you by providing you with this information.

Note: You must use your official AAL5XX ID when flying on the VATSIM Network. The flight ID of your flight goes in your Comments Section of your Flight Plan.

Automated PIREP System (APS)

What is it? The Automated PIREP System is the heart and soul of the daily operations here at American Virtual Airlines. In the old days pilots would fly their routes, write down the information in an email and send it to their hub manager, the hub manager would then total up the hours for the pilots every week or even daily then post it on the roster manually. Unless you have been a Hub Manager you really have no idea how difficult and tedious this could be especially if you are managing a pretty large sized roster. So along came our new Automated PIREP System (APS), automation really revolutionized not only our, but many VA's operations. No longer would a pilot have to spend his/her time writing down information to send by email, and no longer would staff spend countless hours counting pilot reports. At American Virtual Airlines we went a step further above all others, now not only can you log your flights on your own, but you can now log your flight automatically using FSACARS, FSPassengers, and FS Flight Keeper! Above that we also have a flight booking system which lets those users who use FSACARS, FSPassengers, and FS Flight Keeper book a scheduled flight from the REAL American Airlines schedules listed on our system, or if you want to create your own flight you can also use the "Book a Flight" option to create any customized flight to your liking according to your rating.

How Do I Use the APS?

When you received your welcome letter you should have been given your Pilot ID and a temporary password for you to log into the automated system. please use your full ID (AAL5##) and your temporary password to log in, once you log in the first thing you should do is change your password to something you will remember. only YOU will know this password, DO NOT share it with anyone. When you log in you will see a "Pilot Actions" menu. here is where you will be able to file your PIREP's, view your log book, as well as have access to HR forms you may need, such as Leave of Absence requests.

AvA Forums

All new pilots are strongly encouraged to join the American Virtual Airlines Forum. You can find a link to the forum in the American Virtual Airlines website and in your New York Domicile website. Here you will find useful information in many areas including the General Chat, Events, Fleet, Training, Technical Support, Timetable, Public Relations, Website, and Domicile Forums. In these forums you will be able to post messages and gather lots of information about our Virtual Airline and it's pilots. This is a great way to get to know your fellow AvA pilots.

New York Flight Operations

Our New York Flight Operations Center is based at John F. Kennedy International Airport. Currently American Virtual Airlines does not have Domiciles or Hubs operating out of the La Guardia, Newark Liberty or Philadelphia International airports. Due to major American, American Eagle, and OneWorld flight operations at these airports the New York Hub's Management Team has decided to provide full support in flight operations to these satellites airports. All based active JFK pilots are encouraged to conduct flight operations from all four airports. In the New York Flight Operations and Crew Center pages you will find all the flight information you will need on all departing American, American Eagle, and OneWorld flights.

New York ARTCC

All pilots specially our new pilots are strongly encouraged to visit the New York ARTCC site for an incredible amount of valuable information regarding Air Traffic Control to the three major airports in the New York City area. These airports are John F Kennedy Int'l (KJFK), La Guardia Int'l (KLGA), Newark Int'l (KEWR), and all surrounding airports including Philadelphia International. Check out their "Big Apple" Forums for a lot of information regarding everything you need to know and have while flying over the New York skies. Here is a sample of what they have to offer:
